Is cold and flu season coming on? Then it’s time to stock up on the orange food group. Citrus fruit, carrots, orange bell peppers and other fruits and vegetables from the orange group help heal and repair, boosting the immune response system at the first signs of a cold, and help your body build defenses against harmful invaders. Full of Vitamin C, Vitamin A, the B-vitamins, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, selenium, and zinc, carotenoids (alpha carotene, beta-carotene, lutein, lycopene…) this group is a powerful anti-bacterial and anti-viral, and is a great source of energy boost as well.

When we start feeling the need to power our body’s natural defenses, we might be inclined to reach for that glass of OJ. But there are a number of other foods that can deliver powerful immunity boosting benefits as well. Red lentils are a great source of zinc and vitamin B6 which help the body create white blood cells.

Orange bell peppers are full of carotenoids which help the body stave off infection. And citrus fruit, such as grapefruit, oranges, clementines, and tangerines offer a powerful immunity boost, key to fighting the onset of any cold. And, because your body doesn’t produce or store it, you need daily vitamin C for continued health. As an added benefit, vitamin C may help you maintain vibrant skin, and beta carotene, which your body converts into vitamin A, helps keep your eyes healthy.
Please keep in mind that while vitamin C might help you recover from a cold more quickly, there’s no evidence yet that it’s effective against the new coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2.
